Cross-cultural Awareness
We believe that teachers can be successful with foreign students, especially in a foreign country, only after they have had some preparation in cross-cultural awareness. Therefore, in addition to the academic areas mentioned in the program, we have developed a module on cross-cultural awareness which will not only help you to understand the global village we live in, but also teaches you to prosper in a foreign country with foreign students. This module includes:
• The world we live in
• Exploring your own cultural identity
• Personal cultural values and beliefs
• Learning about another culture: how cultures differ
• Stereotypes and the consequences
• Culture shock
• Adapting to your new culture
Besides formal sessions in these areas, you will be getting to know participants from a variety of countries, as well as groups of aspiring Ecuadorian students.
You can always extend your stay in Ecuador to study Spanish
and learn more about Ecuadorian culture.
