I am an American from a small town in the Midwest of the United States. I have traveled to other countries, such as France and England, but this is my first time in Ecuador. My impression of Ecuador so far is that is a beautiful countries with delicious food and very kind people. I am looking forward to getting to know the country and people better during my time here! Prior to coming to Ecuador, I worked in a variety of industries, including computer software sales, insurance, retail, and pharmaceutical. The aspect I have most enjoyed while working in these various industries is the ability to help others, either by sharing knowledge or connecting them with the resources they need. That is also the aspect I enjoy most about teaching. I believe that a good teacher is one who is passionate about helping their students and puts the learning needs of their students first.

Biography: "I´m an Ecuadorian by birth, but have always been interested in other languages and cultures, especially India. And this was even when I was single and hadn´t met my husband, who is from India. I guess I must have been an Indian in my previous life. HAHA! (That´s what my husband says because they believe in life after/before life).
My interest in languages resulted in a teaching degree, so here I am! About personal, travel, other languages, etc:
- I have 2 kids.
- I have been to the States (seen a glimpse of India in N.J)
- I am trying to learn my husbands mother tongue (Punjabi- very complicated)
And working at CEC (Teaching English and Spanish) and enjoying it!"

Dislikes: Not many I can think of.
I was born and raised in Venezuela before the 21st-century socialism's unmitigated disaster hit my country. After getting my diploma, I was able to escape 3 years ago and chose Ecuador due to its culture's similarities to the Venezuelan one; nonetheless, I lived through big changes that were made easy by my dear Ecuadorian and expat friends. I worked in a cafeteria for a couple of years and met a lot people, which was a great way to start building something here. Luck came knocking on my door with a teaching position 1 year ago. Suffice to say, I immediately fell in love with the profession. I realized that anyone can have a diploma in teaching. Not everyone with a diploma can teach, though. It's all about caring for your students and their understanding and also a little about explaining the rules and their really confusing exceptions in English Grammar. Although my first job as a teacher was great, I set myself to find a new challenge and CEC-EPN is it. I'm thrilled to be part of this tremendous team. Hopefully, I will continue to improve my teaching skills and cultivate ravenous minds for English at the same time.

Dislikes: Smoking, drinking alcohol, wasting time, dishonesty
Biography: "I love teaching. I consider my students the reason for my profession. I enjoy every class I teach. I love to meet people and talk to them about a variety of topics; I try to learn more and more from others. I also like to travel a lot. I have visited some countries in Europe and Africa, as well as some cities in the United States. I speak Spanish as my native language, and German and English as foreign languages. I think learning languages helps one a lot in understanding people in order to help them. Ecuadorian people are good and friendly; and most of them are honest and hard-working. They need more help from government in order to get a higher degree of development. I believe that I should teach my students everything I know about the language, as well as the values that can help a person for his/her integral development."

It was like an anecdote because I hated English. As a matter of fact, I was about to fail third course. My mom decided to solve this problem somehow, so she registered me in a private institute, and I started studying English there. Soon after I liked it because of the teacher. Biography: "I started studying English formally when I was 17. I had to do it because of the major I chose at Central University (I'm a tourist guide). I have liked English since I was a child. My sister used to listen to music and watch movies in English, so it woke up a special interest in the language for me. Well, my family and I are Ecuadorians; in fact, most of my family is from Cuenca originally. Likes: I’m an exercise enthusiast and enjoy anything from lifting, to cycling, to yoga. I am also a big fan of movies with some of my favorites being “The Dark Knight,” “No Country for Old Men,” and “Finding Nemo.”
Dislikes: Wet socks, unwashed dishes, and hair in the shower.
I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the same town where I eventually attended the University of Michigan. While I studied there I was involved in many student groups including SAPAC, the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center, and CommonGround, a social justice education program. I eventually declared majors in Spanish and Sociology and capped off my final year by writing a sociological thesis on heterosexual masculinity. During my time at my university, I became increasingly involved in pedagogical pursuits, not only through my extracurriculars, but also through coaching at the high school level for my former rowing team. Since I was also studying Spanish, teaching in a Spanish speaking country quickly became a part of my post graduate goals. While it took some time to make this goal a reality, I am extremely proud and excited to be in Ecuador to contribute to educational efforts, improve my own language abilities, and experience a new and beautiful culture.

Biography: "After extensive travel around Europe, I realized that traveling was truly one of my passions. I appreciated that teaching English would allow me to pursue this passion, so when I was told of a job opening in Ecuador, I jumped at the chance."
"I came to Quito in 2007 with little knowledge of the country and was unable to speak Spanish. My first job in Quito was teaching English at Colegio Intisana. Although adapting to a new culture and the work was a challenge, I found my calling in teaching. Outside of work I began to immerse myself in the culture and used my time to travel within the country. I found many friends here, learned Spanish, salsa, and I fell in love not only with Ecuador but also with its people."
"After I finished working at Intisana and volunteering in different areas in Quito, I backpacked around South America. I was able to travel to Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile. It was an amazing experience and helped me in making Ecuador my choice of being a place of long term stay."
"On my return to England in 2008, I began to study at International House London where I was awarded the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching (C.E.L.T.A). I returned to Quito in 2009 and began working at CEC. I have been perfecting my skills as a foreign language teacher over the past year, and I am returning to England in the summer of 2011 to obtain the Cambridge Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (D.E.L.T.A)."
"I believe that English is an extremely important tool that helps people to achieve their goals both professionally and personally and I thoroughly enjoy the experience of assisting in this capacity."

Dislikes: I was born and raised in Texarkana, TX. I did my undergraduate studies in Los Angeles, CA, and my graduate studies in New York, NY. I have also lived abroad in Japan for two years, Zambia for two years, and England for two years. While living abroad, I was fortunate enough to visit 60 countries all over Asia, Africa, Europe, and Central America. I speak a bit of Japanese and Bemba (language of Zambia). I studied Spanish in school and am hoping to greatly improve my speaking and understanding abilities over the course of this year. It is my dream to one day live on every continent with South America now being lucky number 5. I have visited Argentina, but otherwise Ecuador is my first real exposure to South American culture. I am hoping to have the opportunity to travel around this beautiful country and some of the neighboring countries as well during my stay here. My impression of Ecuador is that it's filled with amazing nature, friendly people, and delicious food. I feel the importance of learning English is that it is an international language and can help to build bridges with people from other countries when traveling or living abroad. In my opinion, what makes a good teacher is someone who encourages students to take risks and who is there to help students traverse that bridge across language and culture.

I was born and raised in sunny Southern California, more specifically in a small beach town known as Dana Point. I grew up 5 minutes from the beach, so naturally, spent a majority of my life soaking up the sun and swimming in the ocean. My love for traveling began when I was 17 years old and I saved enough money to fly myself to Tanzania, Africa to deliver healthcare with a program called Medlife. This trip inspired me to continue to travel, and I have visited a new country every year since. Since I have been in Ecuador, I have fallen in love with this country! The people here have been nothing but kind, respectful, and welcoming. The food, especially all of the fresh produce, is wonderful. The scenery, volcanoes, mountains, sunsets, and sunrises are unlike anything I have ever seen. I am overjoyed to be spending a year in this new place I can now call home!

Biography: "My name is Daniel Tipán Cañaveral. I am 28 years old. I am from Quito. I live in the south of Quito where I found happiness. I studied at Mejia high school, then I started to study at CEC where I began from Beginner because English wasn't my best subject, so I had the opportunity thanks to my parents to finish all levels at CEC, and with that knowledge I went to study at Central University in order to finish my studies in English. Now English is very important in my life because I have worked as a teacher in different places; for example, 27 de Febrero High School for about 5 years, and right now I am beginning my dream to be a teacher in the place where I studied 8 years ago (CEC)."
"I started working as a customer assistant at CEC for about 2 years where I met great co-workers and friends. It was a very nice experience and also hard because I knew the sacrifice that a secretary does to open a course, and I really admire it. But today, thank God, I can grow professionally in the same place and hope to stay here a very long time to continue to show my enthusiasm, strength, courage, energy, thanks to the parents I have. I hope to soon know another country with my family and together learn the wonderful things in this world."
"My inspiration for growing comes from my parents, my wife and my children. I have everything in this life: happiness, love, peace and very good friends in my heart. I am very excited to be living and working in Ecuador! I grew up in a small farming town in Iowa and received my undergraduate degree in marketing from the University of Iowa in 2015. I worked for a healthcare publication company in Chicago for two years planning national conferences and doing account management. I enjoy traveling both in and outside of the US. Last year I hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. It was an incredible experience and sparked my interest to come back to South America for a longer period of time. I am a native speaker of English and am working to improve my Spanish while I´m here. This is my first time teaching in a professional setting. During this year I will be completing my TEFL certification. I am looking forward to helping others improve their English while experiencing and learning about the Ecuadorian culture.

Place of Birth: Imbabura Province, Ecuador
University / Degree: B.A. in English Teaching, UTPL, Loja, Ecuador
Likes: I like life in all its manifestations. I like seafood, wine, soft jazz, Alan Parson, The Beatles, Sean Connery, Julia Roberts, Romance and war movies, swimming, playing the guitar and photography.
Dislikes: There are a few things that I don’t really like. They include boring and long ads on TV, dishonest people like false politicians, people who produce pollution, and, especially, people who utilize their own double-speak loaded with hypocrisy and cynical opportunism.
Biography: "Hi there! I’m Fernando Martinez and I think, through teaching, one can help the world be a better place. I used to work in photography making maps of the Earth's surface. I learned English to travel abroad for a scholarship as a technologist in aerial photography in Enschede, The Netherlands. I became a teacher by accident, because the aircraft I used to work on fell and crashed. Fortunately, I wasn’t part of the crew that day. Since then, I decided to work in much safer fields! I miss being an aerial photographer, though. While teaching, I got two university degrees. The first was my BA in teaching English at the UTPL, the Open University, Loja. The second was my BS in biology at the Catholic University, Quito. As a biologist, I have also worked on environmental assessment projects in stream ecology, too. I think what makes a good teacher is not about technique solely. It takes a great deal of connective capacity to reach the students, to have them reach each other, and for everyone to learn the subject being studied."

Good morning sir, may I help you"? J'ai acheté tout ce que je voulais et depuis ce jour j'aime l'anglais."
"Pour être un excellent professeur, premièrement il faut être patient, en second lieu il faut être enthousiaste et faire passer cet enthousiasme aux étudiants, en un mot, il faut avoir de l'inspiration. Après trois années comme prof au CEC, au moment où je vous parle, je me sens fier. Comment? C'est lorsque je rencontre un de mes ex- étudiants et que nous conversons en français ou en anglais. Oui, je me sens réellement content.

Dislikes: Injustice, war, ethnic conflict, and/or any lack of respect for differences.
Biography: "As a kid of the 40s, I had a pleasant, semi-bucolic life. I was lucky to have an American lady as a godmother, who helped enhance my English abilities. Once I finished High School, I left home because of my reluctance to study law. I stayed in Guayaquil for a short time and then I moved to the US, where I traveled around for a while. My best experiences happened in Arizona, Texas, and Boston, Massachusetts. As I had the opportunity to work, I learned to admire the democratic principles and the many virtues of the American people that helped build that great nation. After returning to Ecuador to study my major, I got a job in the local affiliate plant of General Tire. This enabled my active participation in strategic business planning and performance reviews of the company, as well as continuous travel to the US as Head of Purchasing. The company offered me in-training in manufacturing, corporate purchasing and corporate personnel. I have traveled around South America and Europe, the late looking for my roots, and I discovered that I am a mix of Italian, Catalonian, French, and Jewish Ancestors. As I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, genealogical research has become an important duty in my life."
"Working for multinational companies, in international trade and the steamship business has given me certainty of the importance of English. And as strongly as I believe in "love thy neighbor", teaching English is, for me, not an ordinary activity to make a living. It is an invaluable tool to enhance young Ecuadorian students' lives, allowing them to be more competitive, productive, and have better access to scientific information, therefore enabling them to take on superior challenges."
Gabriel was the first CEC teacher to get a 5 - top grade - in the APIEL examination.

Biography: Learning a language is an open door to a whole new culture. For myself, English has always been my favorite language. English is the world’s most widely used language. Learning English gives you more opportunities in your career and studies all around the world. From my own personal experience, I’ve enjoyed learning languages since I was a child. Besides, I like ancient cultures and languages. They always teach us valuable lessons.
Learning ancient Greek, for example, gave me the opportunity to gain a better understanding of my native language roots; Spanish. In addition, it helped to learn and understand new languages like French.
In my opinion, you should enjoy all you do in life, your studies, your job, everything. As a teacher, I encourage my students to enjoy learning English, not just because “they have to” or because it is important for their lives.
English is a wonderful language to learn. I invite everybody to try it; you’ll love English as much as I do.

I was born and raised in a small town in the southern United States. Opportunities were limited, but through the power of education, I was able to achieve scholarships to the University of Alabama, which granted me the opportunity to study, travel, and volunteer at home and around the world. I find it my calling to help students understand and capitalize on the power of learning, and the raw potential it grants for those willing to excel. I witnessed elementary students in Nicaragua choosing to learn English during their Christmas break. I witnessed adult American immigrants in the U.S. choosing to learn English after hours of working to provide for themselves and their families. Whether for economic opportunity, cultural exploration, or simply necessity, I see that same desire here in Ecuador. I cannot wait to do everything in my power to help my students discover theirs.

Likes: My favorite kinds of food are Ecuadorian typical food and Italian food, as well. I also prefer fruit juice, and I don't drink any alcohol at all, except "piña colada" which I love. Additionally, I like romantic and folk music and I also enjoy cumbias. Moreover, my favorite singer is Sandro de America, but unfortunately he is dead now. On the other hand, I almost never watch films or television because I don’t have much time. However, I like romantic and action films, being Steven Seagal my favorite actor. Regarding to sports, I can say that I don't do any sports because I have asthma. Nevertheless, I loved playing basketball as a child. Furthermore, I can also mention that my favorite hobby is teaching English because I really enjoy being a teacher. I also love making gorgeous and very elegant cards for all kinds of occasions, from Baby Showers to funerals. In addition, cooking, making cakes, desserts, and handicrafts are things I also love doing.
Dislikes: I don’t like corruption, rude people and feeling myself unable to change some things that are wrong.
I was born in Quito - Ecuador on February 12th, 1967. Therefore, I am 51 years old now. I went to La Providencia Elementary School and High school where I majored in Social Sciences. Then I entered the Faculty of Philosophy of the Central University, that is the place where people interested in becoming teachers usually study. I majored in English Teaching in the School of Languages there since I had always wanted to become a teacher. Before graduating from University I started working in a small school and then I got a job at ITSA where I taught English to future executive secretaries. About one year later, after graduating from university, I got a job at Juan Montalvo High school where I worked for 20 years. Four years after starting working in this high school, I also got a job at UTE where I worked for 24 years. I can say that this was one of the best working experiences I had had, but unfortunately the Language Institute was closed and all the teachers were fired three weeks ago. Luckily, now I am going to start working for CEC of Politécnica Nacional and I am sure that it will also be a very enriching and pleasant experience because teaching English is my passion and I consider myself blessed enough for being what I have always wanted to be: a teacher. It is important to mention that teaching is one of the most inspiring professions due to the fact that teachers are able to touch their students’ minds and souls to help them be better human beings in benefit of themselves, their families, society and the world in general and even more considering we are lucky to teach English, which is the language able to bring down borders and open as many personal and professional doors as people desire.

I am an Ecuadorian woman who studied Marketing but studied Education as well. I used to be a workaholic person but then I realized that in life what matters is what makes yourself happy, and that is how I ended as a University Teacher. I learned that I like to help people to reach their goals. English is such a wonderful language it has opened me doors everywhere and I want everyone to know how far they can go by learning and applying other languages in life. I have been teaching for 13 years now, it helped me yo pay my University degree. It started as something temporary but I fell in love with teaching. Then I finished my career as a Marketing engineer and I started to teach Business Management, as I studied Marketing I designed projects for my students to create their own businesses and products and sell them in fairs. The years were passing and I was looking for a way to combine Marketing and Education that is why I decided to study my Master, and after that I created my company, I opened a communication & Marketing consultant agency that provide help to entrepreneurs, artirsts, fashion designers to promote their brands by using content marketing and integral communication strategies. Business teaching helped my to participate in fairs , and contests. Indeed, there was a national contest called the company of the year here in Quito, and my team and me won the 1st place I felt I was able to go anywhere I wanted. Then we applied to the regional contest in Jamaica and I was the coach of the team, we won the 1st place in this contest as well. It was an amazing experience! Now, I am studying my PhD in Education and that have let me travel around South America and Caribean Islands, I am really happy now that I work at CEC, I have always wanted to work at Politécnica University. To Coclude, I am a passionate woman who was a dreamer, fights for them and now is a tireless doer. I love my life and I am thankful for all the good things and lessons that God and its Universe have given to me and all the good people that I have met all the way through.

Living in three different Cultures: the Ecuadorian, American and European, with different backgrounds, I felt the necessity to communicate with people in each culture, and I found that English is the science language that helps me to overcome communication barriers in that subject. English helped me to know people from many different countries, cultures and to survive and start living in Germany."
"Finally, as a teacher, I learn from people, I transmit my own experiences to my students and I try to make my classes enjoyable. I also love the English Department at CEC; it makes me feel at home."

Studying Language in the States, for me has been a reminder that I have the ability to explore the world. Culture is at my fingertips and extremely accessible. All I have to do, is capture it. My parents always loved travelling and instilled the craving into my life when I was very young. The most recent trip I took, to Spain, let me learn more about myself and subjects I have studied my entire scholastic career. I think that I am given the opportunity every single day to teach people that language is more important than Americans make it out to be. In other countries it is the norm to know more than one language. It is a privilege to comfortably converse with people in other countries, and I am thankful that I have the skill to do so. My last trip was to Spain with one of my International Business classes. We travelled from Barcelona to Madrid with a few day trips to other cities, including Toledo. It was evident that I benefitted the most of all my classmates from this trip as I was the only girl and the only student that could speak Spanish fluently. I decided to not buy the flight back to the States with my class and stay a few more months to explore the rest of Spain and walk the Camino de Santiago. The Camino de Santiago is a Christian pilgrimage to Compostela Santiago. Each day I walked an average of twenty miles. On this journey I met people from all around the world, who were all looking for inspirations for their next move in life. I constantly found myself acting as an interpreter between pelegrinos as we walked towards the Atlantic. What I have learned is to know a second language has made all the difference in my life, I only aspire to see the rest of the citizens of the world to think the same.

Dislikes: When people take up the entire side of the street/sidewalk!
After various volunteer experiences, and working as a writer for the Borgen Project (a nonprofit organization which works to combat global poverty), I have seen the way in which education can truly empower individuals, as well as entire populations. It is through this lense that teaching has always appealed to me, in conjunction with my passion for experiencing other places and cultures outside of those I am accustomed to. My wish is that through teaching English, I will not only be able to positively impact the lives of my students, but also personally learn just as much from them in our exchange!

My life has been varied, and I have lived in many places. I am from the United States, and I’ve lived in Texas, Maryland, North Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, Arizona, and Washington, DC. I’ve also lived in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Guayana, and Argentina before coming to Ecuador.

In addition to teaching conservation and natural resource sciences, I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Argentina, Austria, and Mexico, English as a Second Language in Arizona, USA, and German in Argentina and the USA. My mom and dad have been the most important influence in my life. They taught me a lot of ethical and moral values that I have used during my school years and also now. There I got my degree as a Bilingual Executive Secretary. I enjoyed learning English, so I started studying English and French at Catholic University. After that, I heard about CEC and decided to study there. I started at Advanced 2 and have now finished all the levels I'm very happy to be a new teacher at CEC. Now, I have the opportunity to put into practice what I have learned. In my point of view, English is the easiest language to learn. However, the pronunciation and intonation can be difficult for a non-native speaker. That's why I try to spend some time talking with native speakers and also practicing by myself. Learning a new language is a challenge, but it is also rewarding when you have the chance to use it and especially to teach it. "

I am an American from a small town on the east coast of the United States. I have traveled to other countries, such as Costa Rica, but this is my first time in Ecuador. My impression of Ecuador so far is that is a beautiful country with delicious food and very kind people. I am looking forward to getting to know the country and people better during my time here! Prior to coming to Ecuador, I worked as an 5th grade teacher in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I believe that a good teacher is one who is passionate about helping their students and puts the learning needs of their students first. I believe that a good teacher is one who is passionate about helping their students and shows that passion everyday in the classroom.

Dislikes: When people pick their nose and try smearing boogers on me. That’s a deal breaker.
Well, I was born in the beautiful tucked away oasis that is The Pacific North West. Both of my parents immigrated here from their beautiful countries, Mexico and República Dominicana, in Latin America to look for better opportunities for the future of their family. I was brought up with sports being the glue that brought our family closer, and ironically put me farther away from my family as well. Having done soccer, judo, and wrestling for a majority of my life I got the opportunities to travel around the world on more than one occasion and compete/train for the United States on select wrestling teams all around the world. During this marvelous journey I found myself longing to teach students, not just in the wrestling room, but the classroom. I finished my undergrad degree in a record of six years, and followed that up with finishing my graduate degree in a year. All these benchmarks have led me to the point I’m at. Teaching abroad to students that would benefit tremendously. I feel that what I bring to the table, as far as being a teacher, is going to be relationship building and instilling a positive outlook of education and all the amazing opportunities it can bring someone.

"All humans by nature desire to know" -Aristotle Metaphysics. In the 3rd Century BC, if you walked into the Library of Alexandria, you would see written above the entrance in Greek "Soul Hospital". In the ancient world, learning was not only considered a part of human nature, but also the means by which we can cure the soul. I believe that education has the same aim as it did 3000 years ago: to improve the well-being of the learner. Our world has so many barriers (.e.g. language, culture, geographic, etc.), but the more barriers we break down the closer we become to being a united human species. I teach English because I believe that language supervenes on culture. Thus, learning another language entails learning about another's culture (i.e. another way of being). By opening our minds to how other people speak, think, and live, we become closer to maximizing our human potential by living with less judgement towards other people, living happier lives and becoming better people.

Dislikes: One of my top pet peeves is narrow-mindedness. I also don`t like sneezing, but what can you do...
My name is Sarah Simon, or Sarita (the latter flows much better off the Spanish tongue). I would characterize my teaching style as both silly and serious; I will make fun of myself in front of students to break down the walls between us. Counterintuitively, this usually helps to build respect and rapport. Earlier today, a student asked me what I studied at university. I answered, "psychology," and everyone reacted with a kind of eureka moment: "oohhhhh!" I studied psychology because the discipline describes me: Inquisitive, caring, critical, and people-oriented. I also have a quirky sense of humor; buy me a quimbolito and we'll talk.

Hello my name is Tim Chucta. I am 24 years old and from a small rural town located outside of Columbus, Ohio (USA). I graduated in 2016 from the Ohio State University with an undergrad in both Spanish and Education. I am a firm believer that education is the building blocks of a society, so I couldn't be more elated in becoming a new addition to this field staff here at CEC. I am most excited to impact and help develop the skills of students who are acquiring the English language at this university. During my undergrad I studied in Madrid, Spain for a semester (2014). This was an eye opening experience for me as I shortly found myself falling in love with the Hispanic culture, traditions, and the daily lifestyle. After this trip I knew that my new found passion was to immerse myself and become a positive/impacting figure within any given Spanish environment. The best way, for me, would be through teaching. A good teacher is comprised of; patience, diligence, a desire to share ideas/knowledge, and above all a desire to impact peoples' lives. I believe my teaching style entitles all of my beliefs listed above. I have been in Ecuador for a dismal amount of time, but within this I have found so much cultural richness and kindness amongst the citizens. Not to mention that Ecuador's beautiful diverse topography and gastronomy is not comparable to any other country that I have ever experienced. I am very excited to commence this year/ become a part of this workforce, and I look forward to the many experiences that are to come.

I am from India, a country not so dissimilar to Ecuador. Good education, especially english education is a dire need for people's mobility across economic and political barriers. I was working as an Engineer and had an epiphany that I am needed elsewhere. I decided to pursue my long time dream of becoming a teacher. I quit my job and went to a village in rural India to teach English. Then I applied to WorldTeach and I came to this beautiful country with beautiful people. My goal is to make a substantial change in my students lives, not just with qualifications and proficiency in English Language but also to open their minds to new ideas and philosophies. I speak seven languages. I am on my way to be fluent in my eighth, Spanish. I have lived in three countries before coming to Ecuador but I am sure I will fall in love with Ecuador more than I have already, during my teaching here at CEC.

Since then, my focus has remained in higher education counseling. I am continuously look for ways in which I can lend a hand in uplifting marginalized groups and helping them advance toward their educational, personal, and professional goals. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering in my community with educational and civic non-profit organizations. This is my first time in Ecuador and the people have been so welcoming to make me feel right at home. Working with such a special and talented community in Quito is very rewarding because it allows us the opportunity to provide these students with the necessary tools to educate their thinking and bridge cultural gaps.

Education: B.A. in Anthropology, Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Quito, Ecuador
Likes: Art and science (cinema, dancing, acting, Physics, Astronomy, Cosmology); music (classical, new age, rock, oriental); cats and Ecuador: a real treasure.
Dislikes: Diseases.
Biography: "I began teaching when I was very young (19). First, I taught Spanish to foreign students. Since languages have always been my passion, I studied Latin, Portuguese, Italian, English and French. I studied Anthropology and I attended college long enough to realize that formal education wasn't the best alternative for me to learn what I wanted to learn. Therefore, I studied Philosophy at Nueva Acrópolis del Ecuador and I studied Psychology at the Instituto Ecuatoriano de Psicología Jungiana. I began teaching English in 2008 and I took the TEFL course in 2013. Teaching is one of my passions. That's why it has always been for me a source of continuous learning and personal growth. Learning and teaching a language are very exciting experiences because they imply an approach to different forms of perceiving the world since language is an important part of a culture's foundations."
"Teaching also allows me to have all the time I need to do the other things I love such as dancing and studying. I'm devoted to nourish my mind and soul with knowledge and that's why I love to have a job that lets me read a lot (eventually even take any available course in science) and rehearse dancing every day. I do belly dance and contemporary dance and this is another source of growth for me. It allows me to be in touch with my inner self and express it in an artistic way. I manage to combine all these things in my daily life because I conceive learning as a never-ending process that involves body and mind enrichment and I think that I'm here to learn as much as I can in the time I've been given…"

Biography: "I was born in Quito. My father is from Cuenca and my mother from Quito. My name is Wilber, but my friends and family call me Willy. I have worked in video and television projects with my brothers; so that is why I acquired a basic knowledge in this field. Right now, we are working in our new Production Company called Apeiron Makers, which develops any audio-visual projects. I play the guitar and the electric bass. I am part of two bands; one is called "Kallari". We play folk music. The other band is called "Desemejanza", which plays fusion and contemporary music. In a couple of years, I would like to study a Master's Degree of Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music.

Place of Birth: The Netherlands
University / Degree: Hogere Scheepvaart en Transport College Rotterdam, Holland
Likes: I like Italian food, wine, beer and whiskey. My favorite actor is Denzel Washington. I love to play pool and cards. I like almost all music.
Dislikes: I don't like music I can't understand like death metal.
Biography: "My name is Willem de Blank. In my life, I've traveled around Europe and Latin America. I like history and cultures. I speak Dutch, German, English and Spanish. I think it's easier when you speak more languages because you can learn new languages faster. During my trip I've learned Spanish, which wasn't easy because of it's Latin origin, which is kind of different from the other languages that I know. The good thing about learning Spanish is that you can understand the mistakes made by your students. I think that communicating with different people is very important and you can learn so much. Even in my own language, I learn new words, so if you are willing to learn you can improve everyday in any aspect. For me, coming to Ecuador was a good move. I love it. I got married here and have kids. What else does a man need!".
